Chen Family Temple
The Chen Family Temple was built with funds raised by the Chen families in 72 counties of Guangdong Province. It is a representation of the traditional architecture of the ancient Guangdong and Guangxi regions. The 100-year-old temple was once the ancestral center in Guangdong in Qing Dynasty. It is now the largest, best preserved and most intricately decorated architecture existing in Guangdong Province. The State Council designated it as an important cultural relic under the State"s protection in 1986. The temple has a rectangular structure as its main building and comprises 19 buildings. Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the temple, having a rectangular structure as its main building, comprises 19 buildings. It is known for its beautiful decoration, which combines wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, clay sculpture, ash sculpture, brass and iron foundry, grotto, new year ainting and other art forms. The special historical, art and scientific values have made it an important attraction in Guangzhou.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a key historical relic protected by Guangdong
Province, is a memorial building built with the funds raised by the
Guangzhou people and overseas Chinese in memory of Sun Yat-sen, the
great revolutionary forerunner. Located in the original site of the then
Sun Yat-sen"s Presidential Office, it was designed by Mr. Lu Yanzhi,
the great architect of the country. Construction work started in 1929
and finished in 1931.Sun Yat-sen was born on November 12, 1866 at Cuiheng Village of
Guangdong province. He was the forerunner of China"s revolution against
the Qing government. In August 1905, he formulated the Three Principles
of the People - nationalism, democracy, and social well-being. He
believed they were the guidelines for building a modern China, and he
contributed his whole life into this great task.Completed in October 1983, the memorial hall, occupying an area of 12,000 square meters has magnificent exterior and elegant interior decorations. The whole building, octagonal in shape, is designed with typical Chinese architectural style. In 1956, a 5-meter- high bronze statue of Dr Sun was erected in front of the hall. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is the most symbolized building of Guangzhou, and a key venue for the city"s large-scale meetings and performances.
Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King
Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is the witness of Guangzhou history of over 2000 years. The mausoleum of the Nanyue King locates in Xianggangshan Mountain, which is the branch range of Yuexiu Mountain. This museum built on Xianggang Mountain was opened to public in 8th, February of 1988. Museum of the Western Han Dynasty Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is centered with tumulus and integrates the landform (steep slope and hummock) skillfully. The owner of this mausoleum is the second king (?- BC 122) Nanyue Kingdom of Western Han Dynasty (BC 206-AD 24), named Zhao Mei. King Zhao Mei was native-born in Guangdong and died in year BC 206. He was buried in the deeply heart of Xianggangshan Mountain, Guangzhou. The mausoleum of Nanyue King hidden 20 meters underground is made up pf 750 huge stones with colorful murals. It is found there were 15 persons who were buried alive with the dead and more than 10000 pieces of costful funerary objects, major are jade articles and bronze wares. Temple of Six Banyan Trees (Liurong Temple)
Temple of Six Banyan Trees located on Liurong Road was early built in 537 of Liang Dynasty. As another famous Buddhist temple of Guangzhou, Liurong Temple is not far away from Guangxiao Temple. Temple of Six Banyan Trees (above 1450 years old) was famous for its Hua Ta (Flower Pagoda) and its name.This temple was originally called the Baozhuangyan Temple, but it was ruined in fire during Northern Song Dynasty and was rebuilt in AD 989 and also renamed Jinghui Temple. In year 1100, a well known literateur and calligrapher named Su Shi traveled to this temple and saw six age-old banyan trees, so he inscribed “Liu Rong” (means six banyan trees) for this temple cheerily. And this temple has since been called the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees. Nowadays, there are no banyan trees, but six banyan trees indeed existed about one thousand years ago, and there is still a nice pagoda. Hua Ta (Flower Pagoda) is the highlight of this Liurong Temple. This pagoda is 57 meter high with a cool structure. Flower Pagoda of Six Banyan Trees Temple consists of a viewable 9 stories, but in fact, the interior or viewing from inside actually consists of 17 layers. From this pagoda, you will get a view of interesting variety of surrounding residential housing. The largest bronze figure existed of Guangdong Province is in Liurong Temple.
Guangzhou Pearl River Cruising
Guangzhou Pearl River or Canton River is called Zhu Jiang in Chinese. It is the third longest river (2200 kilometers, after the Yangtze River and the Yellow River) of China. The branches of Zhu River including Eastern Branch, Western Branch and Northern Branch converge together in the Guangzhou section of Zhu River.
